In a bold move within the competitive electric vehicle market, Geely's high-end brand Zeekr has launched the Zeekr 9X, a full-size plug-in hybrid SUV, in China. With an impressive array of features and performance capabilities, the Zeekr 9X is set to capture the attention of both automotive enthusiasts and environmentally conscious consumers.
The Zeekr 9X represents Geely's strategic shift from a purely battery electric vehicle (BEV) focus to include plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This model marks the brand's first foray into the PHEV market, and its debut has been met with significant consumer interest. Within the first hour of presales, the Zeekr 9X garnered over 42,000 orders, underscoring the vehicle's appeal. Priced at 455,900 yuan, approximately $63,910, the SUV combines luxury with advanced technology, boasting a staggering 1,381 horsepower and a mixed range capability of up to 1,250 kilometers.
Designed to compete with luxury market stalwarts, the Zeekr 9X surpasses the dimensions of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, offering increased space and comfort. The SUV is equipped with advanced features such as dual-chamber air suspension for a smoother ride, a dual-valve continuous damping control system, and the capability to project images on the road using its C-shaped LED headlights. Its exterior design is completed with a large grille and traditional door handles, while the interior offers a luxurious experience with six-seat configurations and multiple color options including deep blue, beige, and brown.
Inside the Zeekr 9X, technological advancements take center stage. The cabin features two 16-inch screens on the center console, with an option to reduce to a single screen for a discount. Passengers can enjoy a 47-inch augmented reality head-up display and a 17-inch 3K display on the ceiling, ensuring entertainment and utility for all occupants. Additional luxurious touches include power-operated doors, a folding table for rear passengers, and an AI voice assistant named Eva, enhancing the overall driving experience.
The Zeekr 9X is not only about luxury; it's also a powerhouse in terms of performance. The entry-level model features a 2-liter internal combustion engine paired with two electric motors, delivering 660 kW of power. The high-end variant, the 9X Max, includes a 70 kWh battery, extending the electric range to 380 kilometers. This model can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds, powered by three electric motors with a combined output of 1,030 kW. Notably, the Zeekr 9X supports 6C charging technology, allowing rapid battery charging from 20% to 80% in under nine minutes.
Safety and driver assistance are paramount in the Zeekr 9X, which comes equipped with the G-Pilot H7 driver assistance system. This includes a single LiDAR sensor and an Nvidia Thor-U chip capable of handling 700 Trillion Operations Per Second (TOPS). The top-trim model, considered 'L3-ready', features five LiDAR sensors and offers advanced capabilities such as Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) and self-parking. The Automatic Emergency Steering (AES) system can avoid collisions at speeds up to 130 km/h, showcasing the vehicle's commitment to safety.
Geely's introduction of the Zeekr 9X into the market signifies a significant evolution in the automotive landscape, particularly within China's burgeoning electric vehicle sector. As the brand continues to expand its PHEV lineup, the Zeekr 9X serves as a testament to Geely's innovative approach and commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and luxury within a sustainable framework. With competitive pricing and high demand, the Zeekr 9X is poised to make a substantial impact in the luxury SUV market.
