Xpeng Motors has unveiled its latest innovation, the G7 Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), which promises a blend of power and efficiency. Equipped with a 1.5L range-extender powertrain, this new model offers a formidable 440 horsepower and an impressive pure electric range of 325 kilometers. The G7 EREV represents a significant addition to Xpeng's lineup, maintaining the brand's commitment to cutting-edge technology and design.

The Xpeng G7 EREV continues the design philosophy of its electric vehicle (EV) counterpart, featuring the distinctive 'Robot Face' aesthetic. This design choice aligns with Xpeng's futuristic branding and technological advancements, such as the integration of three Turing AI chips. These chips enable the vehicle to achieve L3-level computing power, a first for any AI car, according to Xpeng's CEO, He Xiaopeng. This advanced technology supports the vehicle's autonomous driving capabilities, setting a benchmark in the industry.

With a length of 4918 mm, a width of 1925 mm, and a height of 1655 mm, the G7 EREV's dimensions place it firmly in the mid-size SUV category. It boasts a slightly longer body than the EV variant by 26 mm, providing a more spacious interior. The vehicle's curb weight varies between 2,245 kg and 2,255 kg, depending on the configuration. Its powertrain includes a 1.5L engine serving as the range extender, capable of delivering up to 148 horsepower, coupled with an electric motor generating 292 horsepower, powered by a 55.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. This setup ensures a top speed of 202 km/h.

The G7 EREV is not just about raw power; it also includes a host of features aimed at enhancing the driving experience. These features include side cameras on the front fenders, hidden door handles, and three unique 'X'-shaped rim designs. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with blackened brake calipers and offers a choice between 235/55 R19 and 255/45 R20 tires, catering to both comfort and performance preferences.

While the pure electric range of the G7 EREV is 325 km, the comprehensive range remains undisclosed. For comparison, the EV variant offers a CLTC range of up to 702 km, supported by fast charging capabilities that allow up to 436 km of range to be replenished in just 10 minutes. This positions the G7 EREV as a practical choice for those who seek an extended range without compromising on electric performance. The vehicle's market introduction is expected to stir interest among mid-size SUV enthusiasts who value both innovation and sustainability.

Xpeng's strategic expansion into the European market, coupled with its innovative product lineup, signifies its ambitions to become a global leader in the electric vehicle space. The company's recent moves, including opening an R&D center in Munich and considering local production to circumvent tariffs, highlight its commitment to adapting to regional markets. This proactive approach is supported by a robust partnership with Volkswagen Group, which not only backs Xpeng financially but also collaborates on EV development for the Chinese market. As Xpeng strengthens its presence in over 46 markets, the G7 EREV could play a pivotal role in its European strategy, offering a competitive edge with its blend of technology and performance.

so it's got 440hp but the range still isn't mind-blowing. feels like they're all style over substance with that 'robot face' look. yeah, it's a 'mid-size SUV,' but come on, give us more range! and why are those door handles hidden anyway? smh xpeng.

Xpeng's G7: where AI meets BHP in a futuristic fusion dance. But with 325km range, will it break your journey or just your heart? Maybe the Turing AI should also calculate charge points en route. Still, props for the cyberpunk vibe on wheels!
