Lucid CEO Criticizes Tesla Model S for Stagnation Over 12 Years

In a bold statement, Lucid Motors' interim CEO Marc Winterhoff has taken aim at rival electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla, alleging that the stalwart Model S has seen little innovation over the past 12 years. This commentary comes as Lucid Motors positions itself to capture a portion of the market once dominated by Tesla.
During an interview with the Financial Times, Winterhoff elaborated on how Lucid Motors is appealing to former Tesla owners, many of whom are reportedly disenchanted with Tesla's current offerings. According to Winterhoff, this sentiment is driving customers toward the newer, more advanced Lucid Air. Winterhoff's comments also touched on Lucid's strategic initiatives, including Uber's recent investment and its order for 20,000 units of the Lucid Gravity. This SUV is poised to compete directly with the Tesla Model X, further intensifying the rivalry between the two companies. Lucid's upcoming release of a more affordable vehicle, aimed at challenging the Tesla Model Y, is also a key part of its strategy. Priced around $50,000, this model aims to broaden Lucid's customer base and capture those seeking innovation at a competitive price.
