Leapmotor, a rising star in the electric vehicle market, is poised to make a significant impact with the unveiling of its B05 hatchback at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025. Known as the Lafa 5 in China, this compact EV is already generating buzz with its sleek design and advanced features, offering a glimpse into Leapmotor's ambitious plans for both domestic and international markets.

Design and Interior Features

The Leapmotor B05, also referred to as the Lafa 5 in the Chinese market, is set to captivate audiences with its sophisticated design language. A full-width LED light strip elegantly connects the headlights, complementing the closed grille and distinctive trapezoidal intake at the front. Inside, the B05 mirrors the interior design of Leapmotor's B01 sedan, featuring a large central touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. This is paired with a compact digital instrument panel and a sleek dual-spoke steering wheel, creating a modern and intuitive driving experience. The center console includes a wireless charging pad, ensuring that drivers can keep their devices powered on the go. Notably, the interior space is expected to match that of the B01, providing ample room for passengers.

On the exterior, the B05 continues Leapmotor's tradition of cutting-edge design with frameless doors and flush-fitting handles that not only enhance aesthetics but also reduce aerodynamic drag. The hatchback will be available in six striking body colors: yellow, grey, blue, pink, silver, and black, providing plenty of options for personalization. Depending on the chosen trim, buyers will have the option of a LiDAR-based driver assistance system or a vision-only configuration, highlighting Leapmotor's commitment to advanced driver safety technologies. The B05 rides on 19-inch wheels, adding to its sporty appeal, while the rear features a continuous taillight strip and a roof-mounted spoiler, enhancing its dynamic profile.

The B05 is built on Leapmotor's LEAP 3.5 modular platform, shared with the B10 crossover, hinting at potential powertrain similarities. Although detailed specifications are yet to be fully disclosed, the B05 is expected to align with the B10's offerings. This includes a base variant powered by a single 132 kW motor with a 56.2 kWh LFP battery, and higher trims featuring a 160 kW motor paired with a 67.1 kWh LFP pack. This modular approach not only optimizes production efficiencies but also underscores Leapmotor's strategy to offer versatile power options across its vehicle lineup.

Leapmotor's international ambitions for the B05 are clear, with plans to position the model as a strong competitor against established compact battery-electric hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen ID.3 in the European market. Following its global debut at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, the B05 is set to appeal to a broad spectrum of international consumers looking for an eco-friendly, high-performance vehicle. Leapmotor Senior Vice President Cao Lin has emphasized the B05's role in the company's international expansion strategy, marking a pivotal step in Leapmotor's efforts to establish a global footprint.

The B05's anticipated launch comes at a time of significant growth for Leapmotor, which recently announced its cumulative delivery volume surpassing 900,000 units. This milestone, achieved in just a few years, highlights the rapid pace at which Leapmotor is scaling its operations. The company has set an ambitious annual sales target of 580,000 to 650,000 units for 2025, with aspirations to reach one million units in the following year. This aggressive growth trajectory underscores Leapmotor's confidence in its product lineup and its ability to capture market share in the burgeoning EV industry.

As Leapmotor prepares to unveil the B05 at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the automotive world watches with keen interest. The B05's innovative design, advanced technology, and strategic positioning in international markets could make it a game-changer in the compact EV segment. With deliveries starting in late 2025 and a sportier Ultra variant slated for 2026, Leapmotor is positioning itself as a formidable player in the global electric vehicle arena, poised to challenge well-established competitors and win over consumers with its compelling offerings.
