Great Wall Motor (GWM) has unveiled the latest addition to its Haval lineup, the Big Dog Plus, with an attractive starting price of 19,100 USD. Available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains, the SUV promises to cater to a diverse audience with its enhanced features and stylish design.

On September 15, GWM launched the Haval Big Dog Plus, a modification of the second-generation Big Dog model. The new SUV offers five different trims, with prices ranging from 135,800 to 183,800 yuan (approximately 19,100 to 25,800 USD). The Big Dog Plus stands out with its upgraded exterior design, which includes a semi-closed grille and a more prominent 'HAVAL' brand logo that can illuminate, maintaining the aesthetic appeal with its signature round headlights. The vehicle's dimensions remain unchanged, ensuring the same robust presence on the road.

Under the hood, the Big Dog Plus offers two ICE variants powered by 1.5T and 2.0T engines. The 1.5T engine delivers a maximum power of 135 kW (181 hp) with a peak torque of 275 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Meanwhile, the 2.0T engine outputs 175 kW (235 hp) and 385 Nm, matched with a 9-speed DCT. For those inclined towards eco-friendliness, the PHEV variant combines a 1.5T engine with dual electric motors, offering impressive power efficiency. The electric motors provide a combined output of 220 kW (295 hp), supported by two lithium iron phosphate battery options, promising a pure electric range of up to 150 km.

The interior of the Haval Big Dog Plus is designed to enhance the driving experience with its modern features. The cockpit retains its familiar layout but introduces a new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a 14.6-inch central control screen. These elements are complemented by physical buttons for essential controls. The SUV is equipped with GWM’s latest Coffee OS 3.0, which is noted for its improved voice command response time of 250 milliseconds. Additionally, the vehicle offers 38 storage spaces and six airbags, ensuring both convenience and safety for passengers.

The SUV's practicality extends to its generous cargo space, with a trunk volume ranging from 474 liters to 1,362 liters when the rear seats are folded down. This makes the Big Dog Plus an ideal companion for long trips or transporting larger items. The exterior is customizable with five different paint options, allowing buyers to personalize their vehicle to suit their style. The wheel design, featuring decorative rivets on the wheel arches, adds a rugged touch to the SUV's appearance.

GWM's introduction of the Haval Big Dog Plus is a strategic move to solidify its presence in the SUV market by offering a vehicle that combines style, versatility, and advanced technology. The choice between PHEV and ICE powertrains provides flexibility for consumers, catering to both traditional and environmentally conscious drivers. As the automotive industry moves towards a more sustainable future, the Big Dog Plus stands as a testament to GWM's commitment to innovation and consumer needs.

With the SUV market becoming increasingly competitive, GWM's Haval Big Dog Plus is expected to appeal to those seeking a reliable and stylish vehicle that does not compromise on performance or efficiency. Analysts predict that the diverse range of features and the attractive price point will make the Big Dog Plus a popular choice in the market. This launch underscores GWM's strategy to expand its global footprint and adapt to changing consumer preferences, promising a bright future for the brand.

Is a 1.5T engine really going to provide efficient torque for such a big SUV? Seems like a lot of marketing hype to me.
