Dongfeng has introduced a new model to its M-Hero lineup, the M817 Max+, which promises enhanced off-road capabilities and a significant electric range, thanks to its robust plug-in hybrid system and a large CATL battery. Priced at 369,900 yuan (approximately $51,200 USD), this vehicle aims to capture the interest of adventure enthusiasts looking for a rugged yet environmentally friendly option.
The M817 Max+ distinguishes itself with impressive dimensions and features designed for off-road adventures. Measuring 5,100mm in length, 1,998mm in width, and 1,899mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,005mm, this SUV is built to tackle tough terrains. Its off-road credentials are further enhanced by approach and departure angles of 31° and a longitudinal passing angle of 20°, along with a minimum ground clearance of 237mm. This setup allows the vehicle to wade through water up to 820mm deep, making it a formidable contender in the off-road market.
Inside the M817 Max+, drivers and passengers can enjoy a state-of-the-art experience with the HarmonySpace 5 smart cockpit system. The interior is available in three distinct colors: Pine Ink, Mountain Grey, and Danxia Brown, offering a personalized touch to suit various tastes. The vehicle's technological advancements are highlighted by the integration of Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system ADS 4, which includes features like Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) and comprehensive parking assistance.
Under the hood, the M817 Max+ is powered by a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.5T engine with multiple electric motors, delivering a formidable 505 kW (677 hp) and 848 Nm of torque. The CATL Freevoy battery, with a capacity of 50.4 kWh, enables a pure electric range of 215 km and a total range of 1,365 km under the CLTC cycle. This positions the M817 Max+ as a vehicle that not only excels in performance but also in efficiency, catering to both eco-conscious drivers and those seeking long-distance travel capabilities.
The vehicle's innovative two-speed longitudinal 11-mode PHEV architecture, combined with a distributed decoupled four-wheel drive system, offers versatility across various driving conditions. Drivers can switch between fuel, pure electric, range-extended, and plug-in hybrid modes, alongside nine distinct driving modes tailored for different terrains and scenarios. This adaptability is a significant selling point for those who frequently venture off the beaten path.
The M817 Max+ sets a new benchmark for intelligent vehicular technology with its 27 onboard sensors, including 11 HD cameras, three 4D millimeter-wave radars, one 192-line LiDAR, and 12 ultrasonic radars. This suite of sensors enhances the vehicle's ability to navigate complex environments safely and efficiently, providing real-time data to support its advanced driver-assistance systems. As Dongfeng continues to innovate, the M817 Max+ stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to merging rugged capability with cutting-edge technology.
