In an exciting debut, the Germany-based Capricorn Group has unveiled their first hypercar, the Capricorn 01 Zagato. This vehicle marks a significant milestone as it combines the legendary design prowess of Italy's Zagato with the raw power of American engineering. Promising to be an 'ultra-driver-focused' machine, the Capricorn 01 Zagato is set to capture the imagination of car enthusiasts worldwide.

The Capricorn 01 Zagato is built around a carbon fibre monocoque, with both the front and rear subframes crafted from the same lightweight material. This meticulous attention to weight reduction results in a dry weight of just 1200 kg, or 2646 lbs, making it a nimble powerhouse on the road. The exterior design draws inspiration from several modern supercars, offering a nod to the Ford GT when viewed from the side, while the front bears a resemblance to the De Tomaso P72. A quintessential Zagato feature, the double-bubble roof, further enhances its aesthetic appeal.

Inside, the Capricorn 01 Zagato continues to impress with a neo-retro design. A carbon dashboard features old-school toggle switches, complemented by a three-spoke steering wheel and three analogue dials, creating a cockpit that feels both modern and timeless. This design ethos is a testament to Zagato's ability to blend classic elements with contemporary innovation, providing a unique driving environment.

Powering this hypercar is a mid-mounted, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine sourced from Ford. This engine delivers an impressive 888 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 5-speed dog-leg manual gearbox that channels power to the rear axle. Such performance figures allow the Capricorn 01 Zagato to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 3 seconds, with a top speed of 224 mph, positioning it among the elite in the hypercar segment.

Exclusivity is a hallmark of the Capricorn 01 Zagato, with only 19 units slated for production. Each car comes with a hefty price tag of $3.15 million, underscoring its luxury status. This limited availability ensures that ownership is reserved for a select few who appreciate the blend of Italian artistry and American muscle. The introduction of the Capricorn 01 Zagato not only marks a significant achievement for the Capricorn Group but also sets a new benchmark in the hypercar domain.

Years ago, I tried a car with a carbon monocoque frame—it’s great for weight savings, but the cost concerns me. Is it worth the trade-off for most drivers?

The performance claims are impressive, but I question how practical this vehicle will be in real-world conditions.

I wonder how the blend of a neo-retro interior will resonate with modern drivers. It seems like a unique approach to harmonize innovation with nostalgia.
