In a strategic move that aligns with its performance prowess, BYD has increased the price of its Yangwang U9 electric supercar by $16,200, following its Xtreme edition's achievement as the fastest production car globally.
The recent price hike for the BYD Yangwang U9 comes on the heels of the impressive performance of its Xtreme edition, which reached a top speed of 496.22 km/h, setting a new benchmark for production cars. This achievement was verified at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg and has positioned the U9 Xtreme as a formidable contender in the supercar domain. The standard model, now priced at $252,540, includes high-end features such as butterfly doors and carbon-fiber trim, catering to an exclusive clientele seeking luxury combined with cutting-edge performance.
BYD’s decision to raise the Yangwang U9’s price reflects a broader strategy to differentiate it from the mainstream models, which are embroiled in a price war. The standard U9 offers a suite of attractive features, including a full-vehicle warranty extending up to six years or 150,000 km. Notably, customers ordering between October and December 2025 receive lifetime coverage for the car's three-electric system, highlighting BYD’s commitment to customer satisfaction and vehicle reliability. Additional services also encompass upgrade options and advanced driver-assistance systems, enhancing the vehicle’s appeal to tech-savvy buyers.
The U9 Xtreme variant, limited to just 30 units, not only boasts of being the fastest production car but also of having completed a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in under seven minutes. These feats significantly boost the car's prestige among performance enthusiasts. The limited production ensures exclusivity, appealing to collectors and aficionados of high-speed automobiles. The standard U9, meanwhile, maintains its allure with a unique 'Time-Space Door' design, outer space-inspired headlights, and customizable aerodynamic features, making it a fusion of art and engineering.
In terms of performance specifications, the Yangwang U9 is powered by a four-motor system, collectively producing an output of 960 kW and a peak torque of 1,680 N·m. This powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds and achieve a top speed of 309 km/h. The 80 kWh battery provides a respectable range of 450 km under the CLTC. Fast charging capabilities are another highlight, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes, making it a practical choice for long-distance travel.
The Yangwang U9’s interior is as impressive as its exterior, featuring a symmetrical design with premium materials such as carbon fiber and Alcantara. The digital cockpit comprises a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central display. Color options like Red, Orange, and Purple reflect the car's bold personality, while advanced driver-assistance features, including adaptive and remote parking, further solidify its status as a state-of-the-art supercar. This blend of luxury and innovation ensures that the U9 remains at the pinnacle of the electric vehicle market.
The Yangwang U9 finds itself competing with other high-end electric supercars like the Haobo SSR and Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. Positioned as a pure electric supercar, the U9 not only stands out for its performance but also for its strategic pricing, which, despite the recent increase, remains competitive given its features and capabilities. As BYD continues to innovate, the Yangwang U9 exemplifies the brand's prowess in electric vehicle technology and its commitment to pushing the boundaries in the automotive industry.
