In a significant move, BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. has announced a recall of over 115,000 vehicles from its Tang and Yuan Pro series. This decision follows investigations by China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), highlighting potential safety concerns within these models. The recall aims to address issues that could compromise the safety and performance of these electric vehicles.

The recall affects two distinct series of vehicles, with 115,783 units identified as potentially hazardous due to specific defects. The first recall, designated S2025M0165I, targets 44,535 units of the 2015 Tang series. These vehicles, produced between March 28, 2015, and July 28, 2017, exhibit a problem within the drive motor controller. This issue could lead to an abnormal active discharge function during operation, which, in severe cases, might result in circuit board scorching and failure of the vehicle's pure electric drive mode. Such malfunctions pose a notable safety risk. To mitigate this, BYD has planned to update the software of affected vehicles, shifting the discharge method to motor discharge to eliminate the potential hazard.

The second recall, designated S2025M0166I, impacts 71,248 Yuan Pro electric vehicles manufactured from February 6, 2021, to August 5, 2022. The issue in these vehicles arises from a manufacturing defect involving the power battery sealing gasket, which may be improperly installed. This defect could lead to compromised sealing performance, making the battery susceptible to water ingress during high-speed wading, thereby reducing its insulation. In extreme scenarios, this could diminish power battery output, presenting another safety risk. BYD's corrective measure involves applying a special sealant to reinforce the power battery casing, thereby restoring its waterproof capabilities and ensuring safety standards are met.

Owners of the affected models have been strongly advised to contact their nearest BYD authorized dealership to arrange for the necessary repairs, which will be provided free of charge. This recall process underlines BYD's commitment to customer safety and product reliability. The company has assured that all measures will be taken to rectify these issues promptly, minimizing inconvenience to vehicle owners. This proactive approach by BYD is crucial in maintaining consumer trust and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

The recall highlights broader themes within the electric vehicle industry, particularly regarding the importance of rigorous safety standards and responsive customer service. As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow, ensuring the safety and reliability of such vehicles remains paramount. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges manufacturers face in maintaining quality control across growing production lines, particularly as they innovate with new technologies.

Looking ahead, BYD's recall could influence industry practices, encouraging other manufacturers to enhance their quality assurance processes. It also underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. As vehicle technology becomes increasingly complex, the role of bodies like SAMR becomes crucial in safeguarding public safety and ensuring that manufacturers adhere to the highest standards. This recall could prompt a reevaluation of industry practices and inspire improvements that benefit consumers worldwide.

Ah, the old 'recall routine'—a classic way to keep the industry exciting! In a world where even bolts have personality, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised when gaskets get a bit rebellious.

Battery sealing gaskets? Sounds like a classic case of engineering oversight. Wonder if the thermal runaway risk was calculated?
