In a swift follow-up to its recent release, BYD has unveiled the 2026 Seal 07 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid sedan that features cutting-edge technology and design enhancements. Announced just a month after the debut of its predecessor, this new model underscores BYD's commitment to innovation in the electric vehicle market.
The launch of the 2026 Seal 07 DM-i on September 15, 2025, marks a significant milestone for BYD in its ongoing evolution of electric vehicles. The sedan arrives with a series of technological upgrades and refined designs, offered across four variants. Price points for these variants range from 149,800 yuan (approximately $20,800 USD) to 186,800 yuan ($26,000 USD), making advanced hybrid technology more accessible. Among the most notable improvements is the integration of a roof-mounted lidar sensor, which works in tandem with the newly introduced 'God's Eye-B' (DiPilot 300) intelligent driving assistance system. This system is designed to enhance driving safety and convenience, particularly in urban environments.
The 2026 Seal 07 DM-i continues to embody BYD's 'Ocean Aesthetics' design philosophy, characterized by a closed-off front grille and sleek, narrow headlights. Changes to the front include the removal of LED light strips beneath the headlights, while the rear maintains the signature taillight design of the Seal family. The vehicle's dimensions have slightly increased, now measuring 4,995mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900mm, providing a spacious and comfortable interior. Inside, the sedan features a minimalist design with a 10.25-inch embedded LCD instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating central control screen, enhancing the driving experience with intuitive controls.
Under the hood, the 2026 Seal 07 DM-i retains the robust DM5.0 plug-in hybrid technology from BYD. Customers can choose between a 1.5L engine with a 74 kW power output or a more powerful 1.5T engine producing 115 kW. These engines are paired with electric motors that provide maximum outputs of 160 kW (215 hp) or 200 kW (268 hp). The system offers two pure electric driving ranges, 135 km and 230 km, under the CLTC standard, catering to both short urban commutes and longer journeys.
The inclusion of the 'God's Eye-B' system, which utilizes the newly added lidar, signifies a significant step forward in assisted driving technology for BYD. This system provides a suite of functionalities designed to aid drivers in complex urban settings, ensuring enhanced safety and ease of navigation. The advancements in driving assistance reflect the growing trend towards autonomous driving technology, where lidar plays a crucial role in providing accurate and real-time data about the vehicle's surroundings.
By launching the 2026 Seal 07 DM-i just a month after its predecessor, BYD demonstrates a proactive approach in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. This swift launch strategy not only showcases BYD's capability to innovate and adapt but also sets a competitive pace for other automakers. As the demand for technologically advanced and environmentally friendly vehicles grows, BYD's latest offerings highlight the potential for hybrid technology to bridge the gap between traditional vehicles and fully electric models.
