In a significant development for the electric vehicle market, Beijing Hyundai has commenced presales for its Elexio EO, a compact electric SUV built on the E-GMP platform. Offering a maximum CLTC range of 722 kilometers and priced from 18,200 USD, the Elexio EO represents a strategic move by Hyundai as it eyes global expansion.
Beijing Hyundai officially launched the production of the Elexio EO electric SUV on October 16, 2025, with presales beginning the same day. The vehicle is set to be available in three variants: Fun, Smart, and Tech, with prices ranging from 130,000 to 150,000 yuan (approximately 18,200 to 21,000 USD). The Elexio EO is designed to cater to a global audience, showcasing Hyundai's latest design philosophy which incorporates unique features such as crystal-inspired daytime running lights and a figure-8 pattern. Its dimensions are 4615mm in length, 1875mm in width, and up to 1698mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2750mm, making it a compact yet spacious SUV.
The Elexio EO is not just about aesthetics; it also boasts cutting-edge technology and functionality. Inside, the vehicle abandons traditional instrumentation in favor of a heads-up display and features a 27-inch dual 4K screen setup for both the center console and passenger display. The interior design is enhanced by a two-tone, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, providing a modern and ergonomic driving experience. Powertrain options include both single and dual-motor configurations, with the single-motor front-wheel-drive version producing 160 kW (215 hp), and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivering 233 kW (312 hp). These configurations are complemented by two battery options, a 64.2 kWh and an 88.1 kWh LFP battery pack, offering various range options from 518km to 722km under CLTC conditions.
The Elexio EO is built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), marking a milestone as Beijing Hyundai’s first pure electric SUV designed for global markets. This platform not only supports advanced electric powertrains but also allows for enhanced safety features and spacious interiors. The SUV's design draws inspiration from the Morse code 'H', evident in its distinctive square headlights made up of 152 LED units and a through-type light strip. From a side perspective, the vehicle features a sleek roofline that descends from the B-pillar, with hidden door handles and a contrasting color scheme on the side trim strip.
The EO's interior is designed with luxury and convenience in mind, offering premium features such as a Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade, and double-layered soundproof glass. Practical storage solutions include a retractable compartment cover, dual wireless charging pads, and multiple cup holders. Additionally, the vehicle includes advanced safety and driving features, such as a heads-up display and multiple driving modes, enhancing both driver experience and safety.
Looking ahead, Beijing Hyundai plans to launch two to three new energy vehicles each year over the next four years, encompassing sedans, SUVs, and MPVs in BEV, PHEV, and EREV variants. This aggressive rollout plan is part of their strategy 'In China, for China, and to the world', which aims to solidify their presence in the electric vehicle market. With the Elexio EO leading the charge, Hyundai is poised to make significant inroads into both the domestic and international markets, offering consumers innovative, efficient, and reliable electric vehicles.
