In a bold move that underscores the rapid evolution of the electric vehicle (EV) market, Chery's iCar brand is poised to launch its largest model yet: the iCar V27. This off-road, extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) is not only notable for its impressive size but also for its retro design that harks back to an earlier automotive era.

The iCar V27, recently unveiled in filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stands out as a testament to Chery's innovative prowess in the automotive industry. With dimensions exceeding five meters, the vehicle is set to become the longest model under the iCar brand. This substantial size is complemented by a design that blends nostalgic aesthetics with modern functionality. The front features a strikingly square silhouette, complete with round headlights and a robust black bumper, which not only adds to its rugged appeal but also provides enhanced protection.

From the side, the iCar V27's identity is unmistakable, with the 'V27' logo prominently displayed behind the C-pillar. This model measures 5055 mm in length, 1976 mm in width, and 1855 mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 2910 mm. The vehicle's hefty presence is further emphasized by its declared curb weights, which range from 2,084 kg to 2,335 kg across various configurations. The variety in wheel options, including 19-inch and 21-inch rims, allows customers to tailor the vehicle's appearance and performance to their liking.

The iCar V27's rear design offers versatility, with two distinct options: a spare tire or a container, catering to different user preferences. An optional towing kit enhances the vehicle's practicality for adventure enthusiasts. This utilitarian approach is reflected in the vertically arranged taillights and the thick black bumper, which echoes the design language of the vehicle's front. The powertrain, a combination of a 1.5T engine serving as a range extender and an electric motor, is paired with lithium iron phosphate battery packs. While the exact specifications of the battery capacity and electric range remain under wraps, the vehicle promises a top speed of 180 km/h and a commendable WLTC fuel consumption rate of 1.33L/100km.

The iCar V27 is not just about power and performance; it also offers a suite of optional features that enhance both its aesthetics and functionality. Customers can customize their vehicle with a segmented or gold roof, side V27 logo styling, front and rear radars, a luggage rack, front fender garnish, and privacy glass. These options allow buyers to personalize their driving experience, catering to both style preferences and practical needs. The introduction of such a versatile and well-equipped model reflects Chery's strategy to capture a broader market segment, particularly as interest in off-road EVs continues to grow.

As the iCar V27 prepares for its fourth-quarter debut, the model's launch marks a significant milestone for Chery and its iCar brand. Positioned as a leader in the domestic EV market, Chery is leveraging its innovative designs and technological advancements to meet the growing demand for new energy vehicles. The iCar V27's combination of retro styling, robust performance, and customizable features is expected to resonate with consumers who are eager for vehicles that offer both style and substance. This launch not only represents an expansion of Chery's product lineup but also underscores the company's commitment to driving forward the future of mobility.

The iCar V27 seems ambitious with its size and features. However, it's crucial to consider if the market truly demands such a large electric off-roader.

The iCar V27's dimensions raise questions about its aerodynamics and energy efficiency. Chery's engineering will need to address potential range and drag concerns.

An EREV that big? It's like Chery wants to combine a cozy living room with an off-road tank! Now that's an adventure!!
