As the automotive industry accelerates towards an electrified future, Mercedes-Benz unveils its latest entrant in the electric vehicle (EV) market—the 2027 GLC-Class EV. This new model promises to blend traditional luxury with cutting-edge technology, offering a compelling option for those ready to embrace an all-electric driving experience. Recently, we had the opportunity to test drive a prototype of this compact electric crossover on the icy roads of northern Sweden, revealing an intriguing mix of performance, comfort, and innovation.

The 2027 GLC-Class EV marks a significant shift in Mercedes-Benz's lineup, positioning itself beneath the mid-size EQE SUV and moving away from the familiar EQ prefix used in previous models. Two variants will be available: the single-motor GLC300+ and the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive GLC400 4Matic. Both models share the same battery pack, yet offer different performance and range capabilities. Mercedes-Benz estimates that the GLC400 will achieve a range of approximately 376 miles per charge, although details on the GLC300+ remain undisclosed. Despite the shift to electric power, the GLC-Class EV retains the luxurious feel that the brand is known for, featuring a spacious interior and advanced technology such as the optional 39.1-inch Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard.

Pricing for the GLC-Class EV is expected to range from $60,000 to $72,000, depending on the chosen trim and options. The lineup includes the GLC300+ and its Exclusive, Pinnacle, and Pinnacle Plus variations, alongside the GLC400 4Matic with similar trim levels. Opting for the Exclusive trim could be particularly appealing, adding features such as an illuminated grille, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity, and ambient interior lighting. While the single-motor GLC300+ is expected to satisfy most drivers with its performance, the dual-motor GLC400 4Matic promises a more thrilling drive with its 483 horsepower and all-wheel-drive capability.

The driving dynamics of the GLC-Class EV are enhanced by its electric motors and sophisticated suspension system. The GLC300+ is equipped with a 369-horsepower single motor driving the rear wheels, while the GLC400 4Matic's dual motors provide a total of 483 horsepower. Both models feature a two-speed automatic transmission and optional air-spring suspension, which improves ride comfort and allows for increased ground clearance when needed. According to Mercedes-Benz, the GLC300+ can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, while the GLC400 4Matic achieves this in just 4.4 seconds, rivaling competitors like the BMW iX3 and Porsche Macan EV.

Inside the GLC-Class EV, drivers and passengers are greeted with a blend of premium materials and advanced technology. The cabin features a standard 14.0-inch touchscreen and an optional expansive Hyperscreen, making the interior feel digitally immersive. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, complemented by a 5-speaker stereo or an optional 16-speaker Burmester system with Dolby Atmos. The electric SUV's interior space is generous, with ample legroom in both rows and a cargo capacity of 20.1 cubic feet in the rear, plus a 4.5 cubic-foot front trunk for additional storage.

Safety remains a priority for Mercedes-Benz, and the GLC-Class EV comes equipped with numerous driver-assistance features. Standard offerings include automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. More advanced technologies, such as adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving capabilities, are available through optional packages. Notably, Mercedes-Benz has also provided an extensive warranty for the EV components, covering them for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles, which is a significant assurance for those transitioning to electric vehicles.

In conclusion, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class EV offers a promising glimpse into the future of luxury electric SUVs.
