In a significant development for the electric vehicle market, the 2026 model year Avatr 07 was launched in China at a starting price of $31,910. This new release marks a collaborative effort between Changan, Huawei, and CATL to deliver an updated version of their high-end electric SUV, integrating advanced technology and enhanced features while maintaining competitive pricing.
The Avatr 07, a joint creation by Changan, Huawei, and CATL, retains its price point while boasting enhanced equipment. It is available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) versions. As part of Avatr's lineup, which includes models like the 11 fastback crossover and the 06 sedan, the 07 SUV stands out with its latest updates. The vehicle's design remains consistent with previous models, featuring two-storey running lights, integrated headlamps in the front bumper, and a sleek sloped bonnet. A prominent LiDAR sensor on the roof and retractable door handles add to its modern aesthetics, while two thin taillight units complete the look.
A distinctive feature of the 2026 Avatr 07 is its interactive Halo screen, situated between the windshield and the bonnet. The SUV's dimensions are 4825/1980/1610 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,940 mm, and it offers R20 and R21 wheel options. The Avatr 07 boasts a drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd, which, while higher than the Tesla Model Y's 0.220 Cd, still contributes to quieter rides and better energy efficiency on highways. Inside, the SUV sports a new light-brown color scheme, highlighted by a massive 35.4-inch 4K screen on the center console and a 15.6-inch driver monitor powered by Huawei's HarmonyOS 5. Additional features include a 25-speaker Meridian sound system, a digital rearview mirror, and front seats with a zero-gravity function. An optional 4-liter fridge adds a touch of luxury.
The Avatr 07's technological advancements extend to its driver assistance capabilities. It incorporates Huawei's ADS 4 system, enabling Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) on highways and urban roads, coupled with autonomous parking. Safety features are robust, with automatic emergency braking that can halt the vehicle at speeds up to 130 km/h. The suspension system has been reengineered for a smoother driving experience, underscoring the vehicle's premium positioning in the market.
Under the hood, the EREV variant features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that acts solely as a generator, powering the electric motors and battery without directly driving the wheels. The BEV version offers a rear-wheel-drive model with a single motor providing 231 kW (310 hp), while the four-wheel-drive variant includes an additional motor, increasing total output to 362 kW (485 hp). Battery options include two CATL-made LFP Freevoy batteries with capacities of 39 kWh and 52 kWh, supporting a BEV range of 245 to 333 km under CLTC conditions, with a combined range of 1,115 to 1,200 km.
The all-electric Avatr 07 is equipped with an 82.2 kWh LFP Shenxing battery from CATL. The rear-wheel-drive variant delivers 252 kW (338 hp), while the more powerful four-wheel-drive version offers 440 kW (590 hp). Depending on the drive configuration, the BEV's range varies between 610 and 650 km. The vehicle competes directly with models like the Li Auto L6 and the Aito M7, offering trims including the Avatr 07 EREV Elite at 219,900 yuan ($31,910) and the Avatr 07 BEV Ultra at 279,900 yuan ($39,350).
The launch of the 2026 model year Avatr 07 signifies a strategic move by Changan, Huawei, and CATL to assert their presence in the burgeoning electric vehicle market. By combining cutting-edge technology with luxury features and maintaining accessible pricing, the Avatr 07 is poised to attract a wide range of consumers. This release not only showcases the potential of collaborative innovation but also highlights the growing competitiveness in the electric vehicle sector, as more automakers strive to deliver both performance and sustainability.
