Volvo's 2025 EX90 represents a significant leap forward in the electric vehicle sector. This flagship electric SUV not only promises a substantial range of up to 310 miles but does so while offering a blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology. As the automotive world shifts towards electrification, the EX90 stands as a testament to Volvo's commitment to sustainability without compromising on quality or performance.

Volvo's latest offering, the 2025 EX90, is a dual-motor electric SUV that introduces a new era for the Swedish automaker. Sporting a floor-spanning lithium-ion battery capable of storing 107 kWh of usable energy, this vehicle assures drivers of an EPA-estimated range between 300 to 310 miles, contingent on wheel size. This vehicle retains the familiar silhouette of the XC90, albeit with significant enhancements. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 117.5 inches, but the EX90 is both wider and longer, facilitating more interior space. The front of the vehicle marks a departure from traditional designs, notably lacking a grille between its distinctive Thor's-hammer headlights, indicative of its EV nature. An additional feature is the subtle bulge above the windshield housing a lidar sensor, hinting at advanced driver-assistance capabilities.

Inside, the EX90 blends modern technology with the classic Volvo aesthetic. The driver's small screen, mounted on the steering column, moves in tandem with steering adjustments. The centerpiece is a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen powered by Google, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Volvo has streamlined the interior controls, eschewing traditional physical buttons for touchscreen alternatives, although the stereo retains a physical knob. The minimalist approach extends to the window controls, echoing Volkswagen's design with a limited number of buttons. Interior materials are sustainably sourced, featuring upscale, eco-friendly textiles and wood accents, ensuring the cabin feels both luxurious and environmentally conscious.

Performance is a standout feature of the EX90, offered in two powertrain options. The standard dual-motor setup delivers 402 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, while the Performance variant boosts power to 510 horsepower and 671 lb-ft. The latter achieves a remarkable 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds in testing, surpassing Volvo's own estimates. Despite its substantial 6083-pound weight, the EX90's regenerative braking and one-pedal driving capability ensure efficient stopping. The advanced suspension system, featuring dual-chamber air springs and adaptive dampers, provides a smooth ride, even with the optional 22-inch wheels.

The EX90's interior quietness is unparalleled, setting a new standard for electric vehicles. Even at full throttle, the noise levels remain impressively low, enhancing the experience provided by the optional Bowers & Wilkins stereo system. This audio setup, capable of delivering Dolby Atmos sound through 25 speakers, transforms the cabin into a concert hall on wheels, underscoring the serene environment Volvo has crafted.

Pricing for the EX90 starts at $81,290 for the base model, which includes a suite of features such as a fixed panoramic sunroof and Volvo's Pilot Assist. The Performance powertrain adds $5000 to the price, while the Ultra package, offering additional luxury features, costs an extra $4350. Despite the comprehensive feature set, Volvo has yet to fully implement its hands-free driving capabilities, although the vehicle is equipped with the necessary hardware. Future over-the-air updates are expected to unlock these features as regulatory approvals are obtained.

The 2025 Volvo EX90 is more than just a vehicle; it represents a future where sustainability meets luxury and performance. With its robust design, advanced technology, and eco-friendly credentials, the EX90 is poised to be a game-changer in the electric SUV market. As Volvo continues to push the boundaries of what an electric vehicle can be, the EX90 serves as a promising beacon of the brand's electric ambitions.
